Today, the lesson was beautifully taught by Allie Threat from Chapter 11 “The Life of Christ” .
Allie began the lesson by distributing paper and pens for the class to write down five (5) qualities of your best friend. She then had everyone pass their paper to a neighbor and then asked that we circle the qualities on our list that are qualities of Christ.
She went on to say that Christ, along with the people in the scriptures are real! He is our friend, he is trustworthy, he has integrity, is long suffering, etc. We surround ourselves with good people that have the qualities we have or admire.
Why do we need Christ?
-Tiffany Saunders said that we can tell him everything. No holding back.
-Lindsey Cossin said that he is a great example to us in the way he lead his life. For example; while driving, if we feel a little road rage, we can think ‘what would Jesus do? We can learn by his example.
-Kathi Sheffer said that with Jesus we are not alone. His is always with you.
Cathy Thayer - said always listen for him. Sometimes you can even feel someone there.
Tiffany Saunders - said to do the things we know are right and keep doing what is right.
Char Taylor -said that she notices a difference since she is studying the scriptures more for her calling. When you put forth the effort to study He will teach us and bless our daily lives. He will produce teaching moments for our us and our children.
Stephanie Jones - said read or listen to church hymns. Allie -followed up by stating that lately she has seen a huge difference in her children because she is playing church music in her home.
Allie told about an opportunity this week to each her children about the atonement; because she was focusing on the teachings of this lesson:
This week her very curious twins accessed a neighbor’s boat that was in storage and while playing, accidently ripped a very expensive boat cover. During the discussion with the boys she was inspired to explain that even though they were willing to donate their $20.00 from their birthday money, they were still short which will require their parents to fill in the rest. She went on to explain, that that is how the atonement works. She explained that when we do all that we can do, Jesus Christ will fill in the rest.
To summarize why we need him from the manual page 56; paragraph 2 reads: In modern revelation the Savior described how great his suffering was, saying it caused Him “to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit”. He suffered “according to the flesh,” taking upon himself our pains, sicknesses, infirmities and sins. No mortal person can comprehend just how great this burden was. No other person could have endured such agony of body and spirit. “He descended below all things…that he might be in all and through all things, the light of truth”.
Allie closed with her testimony that - Jesus is always there for us!
