Alma 17:2-3 "Now these sons of Mosiah were with Alma at the time the angel first appeared unto him; therefore Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord; yea, and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God. But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God.
The sons of Mosiah had been separated from Alma, but they stayed strong in the gospel by studying their scriptures. They kept their testimonies by searching God's words diligently. They also continued to pray and to fast, to be able to receive revelation.
Sister Julie Beck has said that personal revelation is so important and is needed in all that we do. How do we receive personal revelation? Through scripture study and prayer. I loved this scripture because it illustrates her lesson so well.
We need personal revelation in all aspects of our lives. I pray we may all keep ourselves open to receiving personal revelation by studying our scriptures daily, and by praying without ceasing!
