PRIDE

Those of you reading these blog messages may have noticed that many of the scripture references lately have been from the Book of Mormon. That is because those posting on the blog have accepted the recent challenge to read the Book of Mormon in 30 days and we are impressed by the great messages in the Book of Mormon scriptures.

In my reading, I never cease to be amazed at how quickly the stalwart, righteous people become unrighteous due to their pride. For example; in Alma 4:7 we read, "And it came to pass in the seventh year of the reign of the judges there were about three thousand five hundred souls that united themselves to the church of God and were baptized. And thus ended the seventh year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi; and there was continual peace in all the land."

Then, in just one year the people had changed. In Alma 4:9 we read, "And thus, in this eighth year of the reign of the judges, there began to be great contentions among the people of the church; yea, there were envyings, and strife, and malice, and persecutions, and pride, even to exceed the pride of those who did not belong to the church of God."

I would like to believe that sort of thing could not happen to us in our day, but the fact is, our prophet is cautioning us all the time to be careful where we put our priorities. It's very important for us to read and learn from the scriptures.

Love, Kathi
