Studying Scriptures

I am attending the BYU women's conference this week, and wanted to make a post on one of my favorite classes from today. The class was on scripture study, entitled "Enjoy The Words Of Eternal Life". Following are my notes from the class:

Alma 32:5 And they came unto Alma; and the one who was the foremost among them said unto him: Behold, what shall these my brethren do, for they are despised of all men because of their poverty, yea, and more especially by our priests; for they have cast us out of our synagogues which we have labored abundantly to build with our own hands; and they have cast us out because of our exceeding poverty; and we have no place to worship our God; and behold, what shall we do?

Do we have "no place" to worship God? Replace "place" with "time", or "energy", or "desire". Do we have no time to worship God? No energy or no desire to worship God? This class offered 6 principles to have the time/place to worship God:

1. Alma 32:6 seek repentance to be humble
2. Alma 32:10-11 Open your mind, your heart, your schedule to be able to study the word of God.
-have scriptures in every room of the house
-use a big purse and always carry a copy of the Ensign or conference talks with you - to read if you ever have to wait anywhere
-keep a set of scriptures in your car to read while you're waiting
-you can do anything with His help
3. Alma 32:26 - don't expect it to be easy at first - be patient and consistent. Patience requires actively working toward worthwhile goals -they do not come without effort
4. Alma 32:34 - recognize how studying the scriptures makes you feel - we continue to do things that make us feel good
- are we excited to read our scriptures?
5. Alma 37:39 - nourish your new habit. As we partake of the word, it is in us - in our words and in our actions
6. Alma 32:41-43 - enjoy the feast!
