Alma 34:38: That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost, but that ye receive it, and take upon you the name of Christ; that ye humble yourselves even to the dust, and worship God, in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you.
I once heard someone talk about giving a prayer of thanksgiving. For ten minutes (set a timer so you know you prayed for the full 10 minutes), pray to Heavenly Father, but the only things you mention in your prayer can be for things you are grateful for - do not ask for anything in this prayer - simply offer thanks for all the many blessings in your life.
I thought it was a good idea, went home and tried it and LOVED it. At first, it is easy to name the big things - thankful for family and for friends, and a good home, food, clothes, job, etc. But those items only take one, maybe two minutes of the time....that leaves another 8 minutes to come up with things for which you are thankful. The purpose of doing this is it really makes you think about all the small little things in your life that Heavenly Father has blessed you with. It really helps to keep your perspective in check and makes you appreciate all the small things. It's a wonderful exercise and I would recommend it to everyone!
